Firsts
I did a couple of firsts last Saturday. I ate lunch in one of the local restaurants near the apartment for the first time. (Before then, I pretty much just got my food from the grocery or McDonald’s across the street). No English menu, and no English-speaking waiters at the time. I attempted to use some of my learned Cantonese, but a lot of things I said did not make sense haha. Anyway, the waiter called his boss, and I ordered beef noodles over the phone. Everyone was nice throughout, so the meal was pleasant.
Later on I had my first haircut at the salon just below the apartment (same building! Isn’t that convenient?). The hairdresser didn’t know English too, but I managed to ask (in Cantonese) if anyone can. One of the assistants can, and so I explained what I wanted through her. Still, the result isn’t quite what I expected. But, I like it! I think.
Between the lunch and the haircut I had an impulse to go to Sham Shui Po again to look around. That place is really heaven. All the computer stuff I need in one place – plus I stumbled upon a camera shop that sells cheaper than any shop in Mongkok! Sham Shui Po is my favorite place in the whole wide world.
