Godiva TKO’s First

Monday, March 30th, 2009

My friend Stefan came over yesterday to jam and see if we could come up with some music together – and we did, interestingly. We were also able to record and make a complete tune out of it, with only a few takes of experimentation and practice.

The tune is a sort-of cover of the song “I Can’t Live in a Living Room” from a popular punk band in Belgium called Red Zebra. We made the underlying rhythm/thematic loop part a few weeks ago, and built on that. I gave Stefan the microphone, he sang the first few verses, and then we basically just improvised on the spot. (Hence some missteps along the way ;))

Jamming and recording took about two hours. Later in the evening I spent another 2 to 3 on editing parts (mostly cutting out some idle clutter), mixing and faux-mastering. This is the end result.

Our “group” is called Godiva TKO (temporary name, but we’ll see if it sticks). Stefan plays the Groovebox while I do my parts with my Ableton Live setup (laptop + audio interface + MIDI controller + MIDI keyboard).

I am starting to get a feel of the music that we will be making. Perhaps a hybrid of punk and dance?

Happy House Orchestral

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Was reviewing my old music scoring projects, and remembered this one idle night where I made a pseudo-orchestral cover of an old favorite Itchyworms song called “Happy House”. I had a blast arranging it, and I think it’s the quickest score I ever did to date (not that I did much) – took just that evening and a couple of hours in the morning the next day.

I made this one in 2004. If only I can remember which month…

Valentine’s and Dr. Horrible

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Oh, Valentine’s day. What the hell is that?

*****

Sharing an 8-bit tune I made from last year (which I was only able to convert to video today). This song is “So They Say” from the cult Internet show Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Big thanks to Jovan for furnishing the graphic!

The Late Christmas Song

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

I started this tune on Christmas eve, on a whim. Was supposed to finish it in time for Christmas, but unfortunately I spent most of that day sleeping.

Well now it’s done – all ready for next year! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
