Music

A Shortcut to Mushrooms

Some amateur/lo-fi quality pop music. Please pardon the horrible vocals. Written, performed and arranged by Joon Guillen, unless otherwise specified.

  1. Ballad of Lonely Man (May 2004)

    First ever song!

  2. (William Blake’s) The Fly (May 2004)

Inspired by and made using one of William Blake’s more popular poems.

  3. The Sound of Settling (September 2004)

Cover song originally written by Death Cab for Cutie. Adrian Arcega performed vocals and guitars in this version.

  4. Shoeshine (December 2004)

A song that was rushed and completed in a span of three days (hence the numerous mistakes).

  5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (March 2005)

Inspired by the film, and intended with a 70′s pop song vibe in mind.

  6. Final Hour (July 2005)

In collaboration with Outerhope. Words created and sung by Micaela and Michael Benedicto.

  7. Ever After (March 2006)

Cover song originally performed by Bonnie Bailey.

  8. The Dreary Plains of Never (August 2007)

A fun, quirky song that took too long to make (2 years).

Scoring Projects

Serious music projects. Well, semi-serious. All Joon, unless otherwise specified.

    Knowledge Channel (2003)

  1. Kids Music

    30-second music for station plug.

  2. One Minuter

One minute music for longer station plug.

  3. Fiesta 2052 (2003)

  4. End Music

End credits music. Main keyboard riff written and performed by Dennis Billones.

  5. The Juan (2003) [link]

  6. Bite the Bullet (December 2004)

End credits music. Words by Luna Cruz.

  7. Star Wars: Twilight (2005) [link]

  8. Main Suite

    A “medley” with three movements.

  9. Fight Music

Fast-paced action music. With nods to the original Star Wars theme.

  10. Einstein / Relativity (2005) [link]

  11. Main Theme (March 2006)

    Composed of three parts.

  12. Theme in Acoustic Guitar (March 2006)

The actual theme’s scratch/reference track. Regrettably, the guitar is slightly detuned.

  13. Theme in Pseudo-Bossa (March 2006)

A faux bossa nova version of the main theme.

Home Recordings

Songs by friends recorded and mixed at Joon’s makeshift home studio. Note, however, that Joon is not a very experienced mixer, so by no means are the tracks here final. Actually, these are just demo-quality; making the point of whether songs are final or not is rather moot.

  1. We Kick Ass for the Lord – Bird Dog (April 2005)

This is a really, really quick We Kick Ass for the Lord cover of an Everly Brothers song.

  2. The Purplechickens – Patihulog (March 2006)

First proper The Purplechickens recording since their first album. This song is copyright: all rights reserved by The Purplechickens.

  3. Outerhope – Sky High Blue (June 2006)

A full-band rendition of the same song from Outerhope‘s debut album. This song is copyright: all rights reserved by Outerhope.

  4. Outerhope – The Christmas Song (December 2006)

Outerhope’s Christmas offering. This is supposedly to be part of a Christmas album compilation, but haven’t received news about it after we submitted the track (oh well). This song is copyright: all rights reserved by Outerhope.

  5. FreeFormDeform – #41 (April 15, 2007)

Remake of a Dave Matthews Band song. Vocals and guitars by FreeFormDefom. And no, FreeFormDeform is not the new BellBivDevoe.

  6. Outerhope – Morning After (finished April 2007)

Full band version of the Outerhope song from the Strangely Paired album. This took a long time to finish due to my insistent procrastinating.

Fooling Around

Music experiments, music made out of boredom, scratch tunes, and the like. Presented in random order.

  1. ‘Till There Was You

Yes, it’s a Beatles cover. This version is instrumental, a sort of mix of bossa and swing.

  2. Outerhope – Morning After

Addition of midi sounds + bass track on Outerhope’s demo version song. This was even before their album was recorded.

  3. Clavinet Experiment

Just playing around with the clavinet midi sample. Also made use of a videogameish square wave sound.

  4. Happy House

This is what the Itchyworms song would sound like if it were in a Disney movie. Maybe that’s not entirely true…

  5. Star Wars!

Jazz rendition of the classic Star Wars theme.

  6. Concerning Hobbits

This was made during one of Joon’s Lord of the Rings euphoria moments. This is basically a rip-off of Howard Shore’s score of the same title from The Fellowship of the Ring movie.

  7. Original Jazz Tune

Supposedly a jazz tune to be soloed on. Didn’t work.

  8. Eleanor Rigby (unfinished)

Another Beatles tune. This is a test of the midi software’s capabilities to produce string sounds.
